Lost Planet Preview
While at Capcom’s booth I was shown a few of their mobile titles coming up. Lost Planet is a version of the console title. Both were versions of a console title and is an additional chapter to their new Xbox 360 game of the same name.
Lost Planet is a prequel to the Xbox 360 game. If you read my Xbox 360 preview of Lost Planet, or if you’ve been following the game at all, you know that the main character’s father was killed by the bugs in the game called Akrid. In the mobile version of Lost Planet you play as his father, Gale. The camera is set at an angle above the character, and it’s also a shooter like its Xbox 360 brother.
When you come across an enemy, the game auto-locks to the nearest one. You can use keys to cycle targets, and then pressing either 5 or your phone’s “enter” key will start auto fire. At this point you can maneuver around enemies as your character continues to fire. You’ll also get grenades and new weapons later on, and each sub weapon is assigned to a new key. The same idea of collecting the thermal material that the Akrid drop from the 360 version is still intact as well.
The game was pretty fun to play, and I could see myself starting either one up as I waited for my movie to start or in line at the bank. With the mobile market growing so fast with puzzle games, it’s good to see some other genres that are actually fun to play on a cell phone.
Lost Planet is planned to
be available some time before or around the release of the Xbox 360 version
early 2007.
