E3 2006 First Look Preview
Later this year, Square Enix will bring several new games to the mobile platform. Though it may not be the first, the biggest will most certainly be the game that’s based on the world’s most popular role-playing series: Final Fantasy. The first Final Fantasy will be ported to mobile phones, giving everyone – even those who do not own a game system – the chance to experience the turn-based, highly engrossing fun of Final Fantasy.
At this point there isn’t much to say about the game other than to reiterate what many of you already know. The storyline was considered epic for its time, but is nowhere near the depth or complexity of the more recent Final Fantasy titles. Square Enix insists that the gameplay will be true to the original NES release. That’s a massive claim, but if anyone can pull it off, it’s Square Enix.
The gameplay is also promised to deliver a great, console-worthy experience and looks great thus far. But again, you probably assumed that. And knowing how old the title is, you can probably tell that this won’t be anywhere near the visual quality of, say, Final Fantasy IV for the Game Boy Advance.
Rather than telling you more of what you already know, I’ll leave you to anticipate this title and hope that you encourage your non-gaming friends and family to check it out. Cell phone games are non-threatening to non-gamers. Can you say major opportunity to create new Final Fantasy players?

If you see people weeping in a movie theater, it might not be the film that triggered their emotions – it could be the RPG they’re playing on their phones.
