I-play short-listed for 2007 Meffys with Universal’s ‘The Fast & Furious’: Tokyo

Most successful mobile racing franchise hits 7 million downloads milestone

The MEF has revealed the shortlist for the 2007 Meffys, in association with Nokia Multimedia, which features I-play and Universal’s ‘The Fast & Furious: Tokyo’ mobile title for the Games category.

Developed and published by I-play, through an agreement with Universal Mobile Entertainment, ‘The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo’ recorded over a million downloads in just five months.

Earlier this year, Tokyo picked up ‘Best Made for Mobile Game’ at the prestigious 2007 3GSM Awards. The title was also awarded ‘Best Racing / Driving Game’ of 2006 by IGN Wireless. This honour coincides with the franchise hitting the staggering milestone of achieving 7 million paid for downloads.

David Gosen, CEO, I-play commented: “We’re very proud of our Fast and Furious franchise and to have been short-listed for a Meffy is fantastic recognition for us. This game was developed by our internal team who continually raise the bar in terms of innovation, and in this instance were the first to recreate the popular ‘drifting’ phenomenon on mobile. ‘The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo’ is one of the most successful games in I-play’s history to date and the franchise is unmatched by any other racing game on the mobile platform.”

"The Fast and The Furious is the most successful racing franchise and film franchise on mobile. We are thrilled that The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo and I-play’s game development capabilities have been recognized by the MEF shortlist for its 2007 MEFFYS," said Jeremy Laws, SVP of Universal Mobile Entertainment.
